Re: Hard But Smart Decisions: Blogger Tackles The .5% Problem /cc @rklau @Blogger a month ago
Louis, you are very right that it's a necessary but very very touch decision to depreciate functionality that is used by a small number of users. Especially because the small user group is often a group of active power users that clearly voice their opinions. It's often a group of users that is closer to you than the main stream users. All in all it's a touch choice I've to deal with almost on a daily bases when making product roadmap decisions.

May be one of the 51Million bytes is missing..

Re: In Case of Real-time Clogs, Check Pipes for Stoppages a month ago
Louis, Thx for pointing out the disturbances with Google Reader and pubsubhubbub. Yesterday I had the same experiences and couldn't figure out who or what to contact about it. At the same time these 'easy failures' also worry me because it makes it harder and harder to create reliable systems

Re: Nambu to be Re-Released (so to speak) 6 months ago
I was sorry to hear that the current version doesn't work properly on Snow Leopard. Nambu is my favorite (only) Twitter client on the Mac and I don't look forward to change... Many complain about crashes, but I've no such problems.. It's reliable and sweet..Please keep us updated on the progress on version 2.0... but I'm pretty sure many of us are waiting.. For feature request I would suggest:- Synchronization between groups on the Mac and iPhone client- Image sharing... I've moved this to Posterous.. so may be you can support that..Suc6 with Version 2.0

Re: RSS: interesting or boring? (Hint @marshallk and @louisgray, we’re not normal) 6 months ago
Yes we are ALL news junkies, however we all consume news in different ways.. Real-time is great when you can focus on following, however there are also 'offline' moments where aggregation thru readers is great. Is the last more boring, probably yes... but it's still very practical.RSS can be sexy too, but with a different purpose. I like Lazyfeed, because it suits lazy people like me. I sometimes just want to wander around the web to learn something new. Lazyfeed gives me a starting point by searching for some topics.

Louis, Thx for the invite I got a few days ago.. The video is great and I like Lazyfeed a lot. Thx again

Re: Study: Which Twitter Desktop App is Most Usable? 8 months ago
I hope they also read my quick observations on readability: http://www.aadjemonkeyrock.com/2009/04/why-do-m...I also concluded that TweetDeck rocks.. although I do currently use and prefer Nambu on the Mac

Re: Changes in Nambu 1.2 8 months ago
The Hide seen messages and Hide all messages now have a different behavior. At first they would operate on the group independent from the home view. The same behavior as TweetDeck. This allows you to make all messages seen in the groups and than delete those from the Home view. Thus making the home view easier to process. Now it does not only delete them from the home view but also from the group. This basically means all your messages go lost..

Re: To FriendFeed and Facebook 8 months ago
I can also confirm the same bug... many tweets are messed up..

Re: http://blog.louisgray.com/2009/05/personal-heresy-what-os-you-use-is-no.html 9 months ago
Louis in many aspects you are right. I use a fancy Sony laptop on Windows 7 and a Macbook Air. Since I'm moved most of my work into the cloud, including Xmarks for bookmark sync (Miss Chrome support) it doesn't make that much difference. There is however one thing what really makes me grab my MBA when ever possible. I just love the fact that it instantly resumes from sleep and is dead silent when performing normal web activities. Having said this, it might be less the operating system, but more the hardware..

Re: Glympse vs. Google Latitude in location sharing battle 9 months ago
Robert, Like you I love location based services... However up until today they are still to much of a real hassle to use. They aren't integrated with each other well enough... I register trips in Dopplr, Integrate this with FireEagle, but Google Latitude doesn't support this yet... Further.. checking in, like BrightKite is too much work and GPS doesn't work indoors.. It's getting better all the time, but we still have a long way to go...Feel free to read more at: http://www.aadjemonkeyrock.com/2009/03/location...

Re: The New FriendFeed Looks A Lot Like Twitter 10 months ago
First impression is nice and cool... Yes everything is bigger and needs some time to get used too... but the most I miss the source symbol of the information. You can't easily filter for instance 'all blog posts' anymore...

Re: EdView - My humble view on things out there - Moodz 11 months ago
How were your experiences? Mine were not very good... It was not very organized, services was very slow and not really friendly... The food nothing special... We were actually a bit disappointed... But it might have been the busy saturday...

Re: Review - PlaneQuiet Headphones 11 months ago
Chris,Years ago I bought a pair of Sennheiser noice cancellation earphones. They were great, but bulky.. I didn't like that when traveling. Recently I bought a pair of Sony in ear noice cancellation headphones... They are even better... My take is that the technology gets better all the time... They aren't very cheap, but it's worth to invest if you travel regularly...

Re: louisgray.com: Why In the World Can't I Customize Apple's Time Machine? a year ago
Louis,I do agree with you from a band width and flexibility perspective... but I will give you an interesting observation in our house hold. I've configured Timecapsule not to only back up on battery power. This to actually reduce the number of backups made during usage. Especially my gf uses here MacBook frequent, but usually not for a very long period. She usually only charges when not using it, she plugs it in when not using it.. It's just the way she works. What happened this morning. She asked me... Help, I've a message... TimeCapsule did not back up for xx hours.. Coming to the point.. for some users anything that gets in the way of doing their work is too complex. First she has no idea what a Time Capsule is.. and second.. there is NO hint what to do about it..I guess it's just impossible to make something that works for everyone...

Re: Apple, Safari is Worthless to Me at the Moment! a year ago
I got the Facebook issue too, but ain't no geek so don't understand the webkit stories.. GMail seems to be ok...I guess we just have to wait for Google Chrome on the Mac

Re: Blogging Predictions for 2009 a year ago
Excellent..I agree on the consolidation and acquisitions... but there will also be nice niche new start-ups that might make a difference here... Who ever comes up with bringing quality instead of popularity forward is blog search might have a winner...
