My Profile Card

What is my Profile Card?

  • Your profile card is like your business card for the web, except so much more!
  • Aside from your name, bio, and links to your websites, you can add widgets to your card which will be visible to anyone that views your card.
  • What kind of widgets? Recent blog posts, recent tweets from twitter, recent photos, the ability to communicate via MSN/Gtalk/Skype, and more.
  • Explore the widgets on the My Profile Card page for a full list.
  • Consolidate all your online identities into one.

What can I do with my Profile Card?

  • On retaggr enabled blogs and partner sites, your Profile Card will be left when you leave a comment. Look for this icon:
  • Embed it in your webpage! We have some options for you. Get started here.
  • Include it in your email signature
  • Encourage others to link to it when referring to you on their blog. If they retaggr enable their site, those (normal) links will pop up your card.

How do I embed my card in a blog / website?

  • Anyone can embed or link to your card, by clicking "Embed" on your Profile Card, and following the instructions there.
  • If you're looking for something smaller, check out the retaggr badge

Where will my Profile Card be shown?

  • Anywhere you (or anyone else) embeds it - blogs, websites, etc.
  • As a pop up card on images in which you are tagged
  • As a pop up card on retaggr enabled websites and partner sites, when they link to you
  • If you include it in your msn tag line, email signature, and so on, others will be able to view it by visiting the address in their browser
  • If you have installed it on your blog, against your name when you post
  • Linked from your retaggr email signature
  • In community features on this site (Edit your settings if you'd like to change that)

Are there any privacy settings I need to know about?

  • Remember that your Profile Card is public - thats the point! So, like anywhere on the 'net, only include information you're happy for other people to know. As with anywhere, err on the side of caution.
  • If you would prefer for your card not be discoverable on retaggr.com in the community features, click "Settings" to alter your account preferences.

How can I make my card is displayed on partner sites and retaggr enabled sites?

  • Ensure that your email address is the same on both sites. (Don't worry - your email address itself is not shared to make the card appear)

Can I customize the look of my Profile Card, by choosing a theme or skin?

  • Not right now, but this may be possible in future. We are also working on different ways in which you can embed your card information into your blog.
Widgets

Can I add a web widget I found elsewhere to my Profile Card?

  • Totally. Add whatever you need to to express your personality.
  • There are some great widgets out there. When customizing your Profile Card, check out the "Widgets" section.
  • There are some links there to good widget sites to get you started.
  • These widgets will appear everywhere your Profile Card appears

If I have a retaggr enabled site, can I add a widget to Profile Cards on my sites?

I'm a developer or I have a cool service - how do I add my widget to your defaults?

Linking to Profile Cards

When I'm writing a blog post, how do I link to someone else's Profile Card?

  • Ensure your blog is retaggr enabled
  • Insert a normal web link, using this as the address (as the "href") :
    http://www.retaggr.com/Card/username

The easiest way to do this is to find the Profile Card of the person, and click "Embed this".

You'll then get a link you can copy and paste - easy!

How can I keep track of Profile Cards I find interesting?

  • Click "Save Card" on the Profile Card you're interested in
  • You can view all your saved Profile Cards on the retaggr website
  • If you need to contact them, or link to them in a post, just click "Embed this" on the card.

I'm a developer - (I don't use Wordpress) - how can I enable Profile Cards for my visitor's comments?

  • It's actually pretty easy. The key thing is to emit an MD5 hash of the user's lowercase email address. Our Javascript code can then link to the correct Profile Card.

When rendering your comments, use the following format :

    <div class="retaggrCard md5_EMAIL_MD5_HASH_HERE">User's name here above their comment</div>
Tagging images

How do I add tags to a photo?

  • Make sure the site is retaggr enabled.
  • If it is, you'll see this tag icon in the top right corner when you move your mouse over the image
  • Click that icon, and a new window will pop up, where you can do your tagging.
  • If you are a retaggr user, you can log in. If you're not, you can sign up. Some sites allow anonymous tags.
  • Using the mouse, drag a region around the person in the photograph that you want to tag
  • Type the name of the person in the photograph.
  • For real easy tagging, import your friends into retaggr.
  • If you have friends imported, you can just begin to type their name, and their name will pop up
  • If the person is actually YOU, click "Its Me!" instead. Your Profile Card will then be attached.
  • Carry on adding tags as needed, then click "Save All Changes"

What happens whan I tag someone?

  • If you've tagged one of your contacts (that you imported from email, or a friend on Facebook) they will receive a notification.
  • (Sites can also be set to be "moderated", which case the site owner will first need to approve the tag)
  • If the tagged person is signed up to retaggr, his or her Profile Card will be attached to that image.
  • If not, just the name will appear on the image.

How can I remove tags of myself in photos I dont like?

  • If you're signed up to retaggr, you can easily view all images of yours, and remove tags.
  • If you're not a retaggr user, this cannot be done, much the same way there is no way for you to stop another person from mentioning your name on his or her blog. Remember, in this case there is no information to link to "you", in the broader sense of the word. There is no Profile Card, just the text as the user entered it.
Adding retaggr to my site

Why would I add retaggr to my blog?

  • You get instant photo tagging! Your site becomes more useful. As people put their mouse over images on your site, the name of the person (and possibly their Profile Card) is overlayed.
  • Links to people on retaggr become great popups with all their details.
  • Your visitors will be able to get more information about people you are writing about or have tagged in photos without leaving your site.

Profile Cards: How do I enable retaggr on my site so that profile cards are displayed for my visitors' comments?

  • Visit the Website Tools page and follow the simple process there to create a retaggr ID for your site.
  • Once it's created you'll be shown some options for how to add retaggr to your site. Click the WordPress option and follow the instructions.
  • For displaying profile cards against comments, we currnetly only support WordPress blogs out of the box. However, if you're a developer, it is pretty simple to add support to any of your pages with just a few bits of code. See below for details.

Image Tagging: How do I put retaggr on my blog/site so that my images can be tagged?

  • Visit the My Websites page and follow the simple process there to create a retaggr ID for your site.
  • Once it's created you'll be shown some options for how to retaggr enable your site.
  • If you're blogging with blogger, or some of the other big blogging sites, we've created some shortcuts.
  • For any other website, you just need to copy and paste a line of javascript into your site. There are instructions on that page which will guide you through the process.
  • If you have images on your site that you would prefer not to be retaggr enabled, add the class "notags" to the img element.
    For example:<img src="myimage.jpg" class="notags" />
  • We do our best to try and automatically determine which images are photographs, and which are graphics for your site. Images with a height or width less than 125 pixels are not eligible for tagging.

I put retaggr on my blog/site. How do I control what tags are shown?

  • Visit your sites and edit the site in question. From there you can choose a moderation option that makes sense for your site.

I installed the plugin to retaggr enable my blog. Can I control how the retaggr-enabled logo appears?

  • Sure. Simply customize the CSS file retaggr.css in your plugin directory - look for the class "retaggrInfo".

I know some cool things about my users, how do I display that in the Profile Card?

  • When you set up your site in retaggr, you can specify a url to be shown when your widget is opened.
  • If the owner of the Profile Card is a user on your site, you can look up their account and display information relevant to that user
  • This is an opportunity to display their Profile in a way that makes sense for your site, probably with data that only you have.
  • Do not display a generic page unless the user is not a member of your site.
  • We're hoping you build some great content that improves the experience of your visitors :)

Inspire me - how could I use this feature?

  • You run a gaming forum. Display a page with the user's clan, last frag count, and computer setup.
  • Show a complete history of the user's posts to your forum, with a fun image showing their karma rating.
  • Your website accepts videos. Show a thumbnail wall of all the videos this user has uploaded
  • Your website relates to restaurant reviews. Show the user's favourite places, and submitted reviews.
  • Your website uses Fire Eagle to capture the user's current location. Show a map of where they are.

Where will my custom widget appear?

  • Currently it will only appear when someone opens a Profile Card on your site
  • There will be a prominent link to your widget on the first page
  • There will be a link to your widget in the normal "Widgets" section

How do I get going?

  • Set up a page on your site that displays the relevant information.
  • We pass through and MD5 hash of the user's email address in the query string parameter "u".
  • Ensure that it will fit nicely within this window, i.e : 300px wide, and 230px high (if you want to avoid scrolling, which you should)
  • Configure your site in retaggr with the Url to your page, and specify the Url to an image for your site.
